Footy Colours Day (20/Sept/2022)
Footy Colours Day is a national and community fundraising campaign held during September each year. It has been continuing to help children since it was first set up in 1995. The event is centred around raising funds to support kids living with cancer.
The funding has a particular goal of keeping children living with cancer up with their education during their cancer treatment and recovery. This year, 2022, Footy Colours Day officially takes place on Monday the 20th of September, however you can make the date whenever you choose within the month.
In Australia, more than 950 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. Cancer treatment and recovery can cause these children to have long absences from school and miss out key parts of their education. Being absent for these periods can also leave them socially isolated from their friends. It’s important to realise that these children need extra help to still feel engaged and remain connected to their education.
Raising awareness and funds to support these children can help to reduce the long-term impact of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. It will contribute towards providing personalised teaching plans that are flexible to each child’s schedule and needs.
Footy Colours Day ensures no child with cancer is academically or professionally disadvantaged. They will have the same potential as any child. It can also support their transition back into school after a long period away.
